Memorial Day weekend

Drove to Logansport Indiana for Memorial day weekend with my family.  I love spending time with my Dad, Step Mom and my twin brothers Zach and Alex.  Of course my loving hubby (who put up the tent, created fire and drove me to the restroom multiple times) came along with me!

We had a wonderful time in the mud!  It always seems like food tastes better when it's cooked on a fire.  Or when someone else cooks it o.O
It did rain most of the time while we were there, but we escaped it on Saturday when we drove into "town" to see a movie at the one and only theater that only shows movies after 7:30 on the weekends!
We also went swimming in the (very cold) rock quarry. We didn't get to see any spoonbill sturgeons in person, but we know they were there!

Today Jonathon and I went to the pet store to get fish to fill my new tank. again. We purchased a very small dwarf puffer. Who seems to be able to eat 3x his weight in blood worms.  We also purchased a few other types of fish.  We'll see how long they survive with the puffer.. should be good fun.

Never say Never..

Growing up in northern Indiana I had this expectation of my future life.  Like moving out of Indiana and never looking back.  Don't even question me about moving back to the place where I grew up because I would have adamantly told you it would never happen!

The thing about small town life is that it moves by slowly.  You don't feel it when you're there in the moment, but when you move away and return you notice it all around you.

I went back to my hometown last weekend to puppy sit my dog Eli and to watch my niece go through the process of her first Holy Communion.  I left Indianapolis at 8 or 9 in the morning because I had an appointment for Eli to get groomed at 1pm.  Knowing how traffic is I was in a hurry to get out of town.  After driving for awhile I consulted the GPS on my phone to determine if 31 was really the fastest way to Goshen, Indiana.  Because if you've ever had the pleasure of driving on 31 you know how incredibly tedious it is.  Not only is the speed limit 55mph most of the way you also have the pleasure of driving all the way into South Bend and then heading east to get to the lovely land of Goshen.

After consulting the GPS i discovered that I had another option.  I could take another highway and drive through another part of the state.  Little did I know (having never heard of these "highways" that I was going to be taking that this took me through the most rural parts of Indiana.. in my opinion.

I quickly realized that there was no rush. I had no reason to be in such a hurry.  I assume that it was the beautiful green grass and the farms that surrounded me on these back country road that calmed me down from the inside out. It may have even been that there was hardly any traffic on the back road I took, but  I hadn't even realized how tense I was inside until I made the trek home.

Anyway the point of this was to say that I want to move back to the country where life moves slowly.  Where I grew up and where my family calls home.  When Jonathon and I lived in Florida I wanted to be back in Indiana so badly that it didn't matter where we lived.  I just had to be back in a state that was familiar to me.  A state where the average age of the population isn't 65.  A state that has different seasons that I'm familiar with.  Now that we're back in the state I'd been begging for for months I'm ready to go back to the Bend..

Now I will not say that it will not happen, because you can never say never because you just never know where in life God is going to take you, but I will say that is most likely will never happen which makes me very sad.  It's good to know that it's only 3 hours away whenever I'm feeling the need to run home to my mom :)
